Brisbane Water Rotary club publicity officer Ms Jayne Mote has been named by Volunteering Central Coast as the Living Legend Volunteer of the Year for more than 10 years of volunteering with the same organisation.
Ms Mote started as a member of the Rotary Club of Woy Woy in 2008, and has since served as Rotary Assistant Governor and Rotary’s District Interact Chair.
“Her recent accomplishments include co-founding the Rotary Club of Brisbane Water, assisting with the organisation of many fundraising activities such as the trivia night events in aid of Brisbane Water Historical Society Central Coast, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Fairhaven,” said Volunteering Central Coast executive officer Ms Fiona Morrison.
Ms Mote was also involved in food collections for Coast Shelter and had raised money for Woy Woy Youth Cottage, she said.
“Jayne has also mentored many local young people, co-founding the Central Coast Rotaract Club, home hosting a Rotary Friendship Exchange from Iowa, USA and being a Rotary’s Group Study Exchange Program Team Leader.”
Ms Mote said: “This is an honour I never dreamed of receiving.
“So many wonderful people volunteer their time and energy to many wonderful organisations.
“Volunteering keeps people engaged, energised and you meet so many wonderful people.
“I encourage everybody to give back in some small way,” she said.
The Volunteer Team of the Year 2020 award was won by The Central Coast Ukulele Players.
They were nominated by Peninsula Village of Umina for performing for the residents of the aged care facility every Friday morning.
The Volunteering Central Coast Annual Awards Expo was scheduled to be held on May 27, but with the continuance of coronavirus restrictions, the event has been postponed to November 4, when the awards will be presented in person.
